Ian Shields, Principal

Mr. Shields joined Bennett Capital Partners after obtaining his Master of Business Administration degree from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where he was a recipient of the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence. While at Darden, Mr. Shields completed internships with both BCP and General Motors. At General Motors, he was an integral member of the team that negotiated the proposed sale of the HUMMER business unit. Prior to Darden, Mr. Shields spent five years at The Home Depot in a variety of finance, business development, operations, and HR roles. Mr. Shields joined the company as a member of its Business Leadership Program, a rotational development program for high potential associates.

While at Home Depot, Mr. Shields completed financial and operational due diligence on eight strategic acquisitions within the retail, exterior remodeling, lumber and building materials, and wholesale distribution industries. In his last role at the company, Mr. Shields focused on organic and inorganic growth initiatives for Home Depot’s exterior remodeling subsidiary. This included evaluating product and geographic expansion opportunities, new marketing initiatives, operational improvement opportunities, and strategic acquisitions.

In addition to his MBA from Darden, Mr. Shields has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with distinction from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
